M6 Lune Gorge structures scheme – Upcoming riverbank and bridge works
We’re writing to inform you about upcoming preparatory works that will take place
beneath Jeffreys, Roundthwaite and Tebay bridges as part of our M6 Lune Gorge
structures improvement scheme.
What work are we carrying out?
From Monday 3 August until the end of September 2026, we’ll be constructing temporary
working platforms beneath the bridges as part of the ongoing works.
The platforms will be built using precast concrete blocks and compacted stone, which will
be carefully placed along the river in line with environmental approvals. These platforms
will provide our teams with safe access and the working space needed to carry out
repairs and maintenance to the bridge structures.
We’re committed to carrying out these works safely, minimising disruption wherever
possible and protecting the local environment throughout the construction period.
Tebay Anglers access
The access routes on the north bank at Tebay and south bank at Jeffreys will be
restricted during the course of the works. We will initially manage safe passage through
the works area. However, as construction activity increases, these routes are expected
to close from early August 2026 and remain in place through September 2026.
These restrictions are necessary for the safety of Tebay Anglers and our workforce.
We appreciate this may cause inconvenience and will continue to work closely with
Tebay Anglers while these activities are taking place
